Sixty-seven workers ended up in hospital after ammonia gas leaked at seafood processing plant in Manjangaranai,Tamil Nadu's Tiruvallur district. This happened June 21, 2026. Medical teams rushed in,getting affected to local hospitals fast.
Out of those,46 are now at Vels Hospital,while 21 are at Venkateshwara Hospital. Nine critically ill patients moved to Chennai for advanced care. Initial death reports were wrong,doctors say. No deaths,but some still critical.
A doctor from Vels Hospital said 44 admitted are migrants,mostly young women aged 24-25. "We intubated 15 to 16,with 11 on ventilators," he said. Despite low blood pressure,he's hopeful. Youth is on their side. Plans to move four or five critical cases to government facility soon.
Chief Minister Vijay set up inquiry committee to probe leak . It's a three-member team: Director of Industrial Safety and Health,Pollution Control Board's Member Secretary,and Additional Director of Public Health. They must give interim report in 24 hours,final in three days.
District Collector Kavitha checked leak site,visited hospitals. Chief Minister directed IT Minister and Tiruvallur Monitoring Minister,with Monitoring Officer Dr. K.P. Karthikeyan,to district. Ensure top care for affected,work with locals.
