The 33-year-old model and actress, recognized for her roles in films like Suicide Squad and Only Murders in the Building,released her debut singles,"I Forgot" and "Out of My Head," last Friday.
In interview with BBC Radio 1's Jack Saunders, Delevingne explained that "Out of My Head" reflects her experiences during her first year of sobriety. She described the song as exploration of "internal conflict and disassociation," emphasizing the daily challenge of overcoming overthinking. "We changed the chorus to 'out of my head' because I think that's something I have to do every day," she said.
Her other track,"I Forgot," aims to capture the complexities of mental health. Delevingne expressed a desire to create a song that resonates with listeners,allowing them to connect with the raw emotions tied to mental struggles . "I wanted to make song that could touch on the landscape of what mental health is like sometimes and how hard it can be," she noted . London-born star acknowledged her difficulties in managing anger,stating that music has become a healthy outlet for her emotions.
Delevingne has been candid about her battles with depression and addiction, crediting a 12-step treatment program for aiding her recovery. She emphasized the importance of authenticity in her music, stating that she had to shift from using humor and self-deprecation to a more serious approach. "I am a person,I'm flawed,and I'm a human,and we all have pain and suffering,but music can be the one connector of that," she remarked.
The music video for both songs, directed by Jessica Lee Gagné, features a cinematic style that complements Delevingne's artistic vision. Gagné, known for her work on the psychological thriller series Severance,initially declined project due to scheduling conflicts but agreed after connecting with music. Delevingne praised Gagné as visionary, stating,"A lot of the music I wanted to make,coming from doing movies,felt to me like it was very cinematic." The video opens with "I Forgot," showcasing Delevingne falling through the sky before transitioning to a film set filled with crew and dancers.
