National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) plans to approach Vellore Corporation about a wide culvert at Chenganatham Hill Road junction with service lane of Chennai-Bengaluru Highway (NH 48) in Rangapuram. Goal: stop sewage water from spilling onto road, especially near Collectorate office .
Officials from NHAI say heavy lorry and truck traffic from nearby quarries has wrecked stormwater drain here. Result: frequent waterlogging on carriageway, service lane. “We will request Vellore Corporation to construct a wide culvert to prevent waterlogging at intersection and damage to carriageway,” said NHAI rep. For now, during monsoons, motor pumps clear stagnant water.
Chenganatham Hill Road is under Vellore Corporation's watch, with localities like Rangapuram, Mullakollai along it. R. Lakshman, Commissioner of Vellore Corporation, said talks on culvert construction would happen with NHAI . Funding needs general council's nod.
Area's got stone quarries, government buses run between hillock hamlets and town. Locals, schoolkids, senior citizens struggle through slushy, waterlogged intersections when it rains. Motorist B. Satish worried,“They slip and fall on the stagnant sewage. A permanent solution should be implemented.” But will it happen…?
