Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and Coal India Limited (CIL) will pump ₹25,000 crore into coal gasification project in Odisha,Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy said Saturday. Aim is clear: use coal beyond power generation . Could change region's industry .
At event in Jharsuguda with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu,Reddy stressed project's importance. "Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu have ushered in a new chapter for Odisha's coal sector," he said. This venture set to boost fertilizer production and offer many jobs locally.
Reddy pointed to investment's scale, saying it would spark downstream industry in state. "This will facilitate fertilizer production and create employment opportunities for local people,proving highly beneficial for Odisha," he added.
Part of larger central government push for coal gasification. Seen as key to diversifying coal use,cutting import reliance for fertilizers,chemicals. Reddy noted ₹46,000 crore earmarked for this effort .
